Lions Club Plymouth Sponsored Knit-in 2009

The annual Knit-in raises a good deal of money for charity usually well over £1,000 and this year it seems that The Plymouth Lions are on track to raise nearly £1,500.  Knitters are volunteers who get sponsors for knitting small squares. The Plymouth Lions provide a hall and supply knitters with refreshments, to keep their strength and concentration going during the day. The atmosphere is friendly and there are prizes for various categories including age groups, quantity of squares etc. Age is no barrier and some of the knitters are very junior who sometimes get help from others and from the ladies of the Lions. The knitted squares are then sewn together and taken to an orphanage in Lusaka Africa by a friend of the Lions. If you would be interested in next years event please let us know.

Lord Mayor and Honorary Lion Brian Vincent met Lion Fulchand Sewak from Mumbai who attended the annual Sponsored Knit-in. Lady Mayoress Pauline Murphy shows immense concentration as she helps with the knitting. Note not all the knitters are female.
